Hunter
February 10, 1926 – November 14, 2022
Ruth was born in Lubsin, Poland on February 10, 1926 to Gustav and Lydia Berthold. She left for business college during World War II, ending up in Frankfurt, Germany, where she worked as a secretary/translator. She married Erich Job in Germany on October 19, 1950. They immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1951, joining her mother and siblings. Erich passed away in 1960 from kidney disease, leaving Ruth a widow.
Ruth worked as a travel agent for 15 years, traveling all over the country with groups from Chicago. In the late 1960's, Ruth began working as a bilingual German/English secretary for the North American Baptist Conference. In 1972, Ruth married James Franklin Hunter. Ruth was a wonderful seamstress, making all her own clothing and also loved to cook and entertain. Ruth and Jim held many parties at their home in Mount Prospect. In late 2013, Ruth and Jim moved to Central Baptist Village in Norridge, IL where they continued their lives together until Jim's passing in July, 2015.
Ruth had a great faith and devoted countless hours to serving at the Foster Avenue Baptist Church (now known as The Branch Community Church) in Chicago, Illinois. She adopted many younger adults/kids/peers as her own and became known as a loving "Tante" to so many throughout her life.
In 2021, Ruth moved to a senior community in West Bloomfield, Michigan to be cared for by her "adopted children, Alfred & Cheryl Schmitke. Ruth went home to be with her Lord & Savior on November 14, 2022.
Ruth Is predeceased by her parents and her brother Herb and sister-in-law, Lucie. Ruth leaves behind a sister, Ellie (Ron) of San Diego, CA and many cousins, a niece and nephews. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Village, 4747 N. Canfield Avenue, Norridge, IL 60706. Burial service will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
