Obituary

Ruth Dorothy Amundson Anderson was born at home at 1055 N. Spaulding in Chicago, IL on December 29, 1915. She went to be with her Lord on November 16, 2014, at Johnson Health Care at Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL.

Ruth was the youngest of six children, with five older brothers. She lived in Chicago until she was seven, when the family moved to Conover, Wisconsin. When Ruth was nine, they returned to Chicago but spent some of the summer in Wisconsin. Ruth loved the outdoors and enjoyed swimming, picking berries, cross country skiing, picnics, and hiking. In High School at Schurz, she played softball. Her mother taught her to sew and crochet, and she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needlepoint, and crewel work all her life. Ruth was frequently found working on crossword puzzles, and was always ready for a game of Scrabble. She loved her family and spent a lot of time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Norwood Bible Church and was very involved in church activities. She also assisted with fundraising activities for Lydia Children's Home. She was always available to help those in need in whatever way she could.

Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Alfred J. Anderson; and her five brothers, Norm, Myland, Harvey, Lawrence and Vernon.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Hazel (Michael) Cunningham, and her son, Len (Pat) Anderson. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kari Misulonas, Mark (Anne) Higginson, Ed Higginson, Krista Anderson, and Kyle (Wendy) Anderson. She is survived by seven great-grandchildren, Joseph Misulonas, Laura Misulonas, Will Higginson, Grace Higginson, Eddie Higginson, Meghan Higginson, and Adeline Hazel Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at Windsor Park, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, IL, on Saturday, November 29 at 10:30 a.m. Memorial gifts may be directed to Inner City Impact, 3327 Fullerton Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647.
