Russ Kemp, 53, of West Chicago, Illinois, passed away at home on September 12, 2020, with his wife and family by his side. Russ was diagnosed with esophageal cancer almost three years ago. He fought a heroic and courageous battle each and every day until the end.
Russ is survived by his loving wife Tina. He is the devoted dog father of Cooper and Callie, devoted cat father of Punkin, Buddy, Rio, and the late Patches, dear son of Anita and the late Russ, cherished brother of Cheryl, son-in-law of Phil David and Nickie Oplinger, brother-in-law of Brian David and Jamie (Ronnie) Arnold. Russ was a fun and loving uncle and nephew to beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a wonderful cousin and friend to many. Russ was preceded in death by his grandparents Jack and Eleanor Kemp and Delores Guitierrez and grandparents-in-law Kenneth and Margaret Oplinger and Ruby Cochran.
Russ will be remembered for his warm and caring personality that made a lasting impact on all those who met him. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Russ's sense of humor always gave people a smile and a laugh when least expected. He loved year-round fishing, and lived for live music, wood-working, camping, and bonfires. A life-long fan of the Chicago Bears, Russ will truly be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Tina and Russ were soulmates who quickly fell in love, then faced Russ's illness with a strength and courage that only comes with the truest of love.
Russ's life will be celebrated with visitation on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at Hultgren Funeral Home , 304 N. Main Street, Wheaton, IL 60187 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. In accordance with local guidelines and restrictions, up to 50 people at a time will be allowed to rotate inside for visitation. All are required to wear a mask.
