Ruby A. Gallaher, age 99, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2018 at Windsor Park Assisted Living.
Ruby was born in Chillicothe, MO on July 10, 1918. Her family lived on a small farm near Chillicothe at that time. Later they moved to a home in Chillicothe. Ruby graduated from Chillicothe High School and later from the Chillicothe Business College. At the business college she met James Raymond "Ray" Gallaher. They were married June 15, 1940 for a lifelong romance until Ray's passing in 2003.
After the 2nd World War (Ray was in the Army Air Force) they moved to Chicago and then to Skokie, IL and then to Crystal Lake, IL. In Chicago they attended North Shore Baptist Church. Here they became friends with a group of about 12 couples. They formed a Pinochle Club and met at someone's home once a month for dinner and Pinochle. This continued non-stop for over 30 years. Ruby worked mainly as a secretary in her career being very proficient in the classic secretarial skills such as shorthand and transcribing it to a typed letter – initially with manual typewriters. She last worked for E.I. DuPont for many years where she was highly regarded and had many friends.
In her spare time, Ruby liked to decorate, garden, entertain, and just "go out" to dinner and various shows. Ruby and Ray did considerable traveling around the country including Hawaii. They also took a couple Caribbean Cruises. Ruby was kind and caring, and will be greatly missed, and not forgotten.
Ruby is survived by her son, Kenneth; her daughter-in-law, Mary Alice; grandchildren, James Gallaher, Kelly Dimler; great grandchildren, Theresa Dimler, Ella Marie Gallaher; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
