Roy Edward Ingles, age 82, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, formerly a 50 year resident of Des Plaines, died Tuesday, April 4, at the Johnson Medical Center at Windsor Park. He was born on December 28, 1923 in Trinidad, Colorado to William and Agnes Ingles.
Roy entered the US Navy at the age of 17 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor when the war began. He survived the sinking of the USS Lexington during the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942. While in the Navy he met his wife, Isabella who he married in 1947 in Chicago. He was an industrial engineer for Kraft Foods for 39 years and retired in 1989.
Roy was an active member of the American Legion Post 1037 and was a volunteer for the Northwest Suburban Boy Scouts, where he received a Silver Beaver Award. In retirement he served as president of Des Plaines AARP and was active with the AARP Tax aid program.
Roy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Isabella, four children, William (Susan) of CA, Scott of WA, Janet (Gordon) Tsuchiya of CA and Anne of DesPlaines, two grandchildren, Lt. Rebecca Tsuchiya and Samantha Tsuchiya, and a brother George Ingles of CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 7 at 10:30 A.M. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
