Obituary

Rose Marie Oling, age 93, a longtime resident of Glen Ellyn, passed away peacefully on October 17,2018 in Eureka IL with her daughter Susan at her side. She was a previous resident at Windsor Park Covenant Retirement Community in Carol Stream for 10 years and most recently a resident of Westbrook Senior Living in Streamwood IL for 2 years.

Rose Marie was born in Chicago Illinois, on October 16, 1925 to Irene Hayes and Martin Sheehan. She lived in the Chicago area and attended Thornton High School in Dolton, IL where she met her future husband Jasper (Jack) Oling on a blind date. When WW II broke out, Rose Marie took advantage of the GI bill and went to nursing school to become a Registered Nurse.

After the War ended, Rose Marie and Jack married on April 7, 1947 and lived in Dolton, South Holland and Glen Ellyn IL and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997. Rose Marie continued her nursing career working at Roseland Community Hospital while Jack completed college. Rose Marie became a full-time mother and housewife when she gave birth to 3 lovely daughters all born within 3 years and 1 day. Years later she was blessed with a son, completing the Oling family.

Rose Marie was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for over 50 years, dedicating her timeless love and devotion to helping others. Her contributions span the years, helping with assembling "The Dove" newsletter, quilting blankets for those in need, member of Martha circle, member of the sewing group. She also traveled with other Faith Lutheran Church members to the Holy Land in 1998, visiting Jerusalem and Palestine.

After her 3 lovely daughters were grown, she began another career in sales working at Homemakers furniture store in Downers Grove. She made sure dinner was always made for her husband and son on the nights that she worked! She turned out to be quite the salesperson, winning contests and took her job very seriously.

Rose Marie enjoyed travel, shopping, sewing, quilting, gardening, going to musicals and the theater. Many family vacations were spent at the Cedar Beach Resort in Remer MN, catching fish and enjoying Aunt Marge's apple pies. She always made birthdays and holidays a big event for the family, and took pride in how she wrapped gifts in paper and ribbon with perfection.
She was a huge Chicago White Sox fan and Chicago Bulls fan and lived to see the White Sox win the World Series and the Bulls win the NBA Championship 3 times!!!

Rose Marie's volunteering became her job. She worked at the Wise Penny resale shop in Wheaton for many years. She co-managed the Gift Shop at Windsor Park for many years, in addition to scheduling the volunteers, and increasing sales.
