Obituary

Ronald Otto Waldschmidt, 84, of Glen Ellyn lost his battle with prostate cancer and passed away on January 14, 2021. He was born on March 29, 1936 in Chicago to Frieda (Sorgatz) and Otto Waldschmidt.


As the son of German immigrants, Ron grew up and went to school in Downtown Chicago. He graduated from Northwestern University's Gregg Division Secretarial School in 1957, he proudly volunteered to join the US Army and served 2 years at Ft. Huachuca, AZ, where he earned an E-5 ranking in the Signal Corps. Ron was an avid supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and other Veteran organizations. After retiring from active duty, he attended Elmhurst College where he graduated in 1962 with a degree in Business Administration. He then joined the sales force of New York Life Insurance Company, earned a CLU degree, made lifelong friends from clients and colleagues to then retire after an amazing 55 year career.


For the last 33 years he has been enjoying life with his beloved wife Marion Jean Waldschmidt at their Glen Ellyn home. Ron is also survived by his children David (Betsy) Waldschmidt, Susan (Monte) Fuller, Peggy (Dan) Cruz, John (Jenny) Waldschmidt, and his step children Tamara (Chris) Allen, Tim Brown, and his 10 grandchildren, Megan, Danny, Eric, Logan, Austin, Jordan, Jamie, Trevor, Tyler, and Isabella. Ron's older sister Ruth Rawlings resides in Minnesota with her children and grandchildren.


A private service will be held in at the Wheaton Cemetery, Wheaton, IL
