IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald Jack
Schlamann
October 16, 1929 – August 21, 2023
Ronald Jack Schlamann age 93, of Windsor Park Manor, Carol Stream, and formerly a 60-year resident of Warrenville, IL went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Monday, August 21. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and dear friends singing his favorite hymns. His beloved wife Nona, preceded him in death in 2020.
Ron was born on October 16, 1929, in Chicago, to Eric and Erna Schlamann.
He grew up in the western suburbs of Racine, WI, and Fort Pierce, FL. After Elmhurst High School he spent a year at Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Canada.
At the early age of twenty, he opened his flower shop in Hinsdale, conveniently located between the train station and Hinsdale Hospital. With hard work and determination, he used his combined gifts of creativity and customer care to grow a thriving business for over 50 years.
His friend, Al (Marti) Knudsen, introduced him to the love of his life on a blind date. That evening of miniature golf with Nona Lawson quickly led to a marriage proposal at Morton Arboretum, and a wedding on August 9, 1957. They raised three children in "Innisfree", in their Zook-designed home, in the woods in Warrenville. Finding their church home, Evangel Baptist in Wheaton, gave them a community to worship, to serve, and be served. They both continually modeled service as the way to joy and purpose.
One of his great delights was travel. Wonderful family memories were made visiting relatives in Sweden and discovering quaint European towns, returning via ship with items for his store.
In 1963 he extended his skills to carpentry, with his great helper, builder, and friend Mel Johnson. They built Nona her own Swedish Stüga near the shores of Lake Michigan. There they hosted innumerable friends, sailed, antiqued, and made memories. This practice continues now to the third generation. Family gatherings and stories of his offspring's adventures brought him great pleasure.
In 2015 they moved to Windsor Park, where they enjoyed making and renewing friendships from decades past.
Ron is survived by his three children, Martha (Greg), Maribeth (Wayne), and John (Nataliya), six grandchildren, Elisabeth, Lawson, Annalisa, Lev, Martin, and Ruth and five great-grandchildren, Rowan, Cedar, Anselm, Juniper and Lawson Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Warrenville, IL.
