Ronald Howard Chapman was born to Howard and Margaret Chapman on August 2, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, where he spent the majority of his youth. At age 12 Ron came to know Christ as his Lord and Savior as a result of attending a Sunday School held at Union Ridge Grammar School. He went on to graduate from Lane Tech High School in 1948 and began his college studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology. In his sophomore year at IIT, Ron joined the Navy where he studied to become an electronic technician, graduating second in his class. Post-graduation he continued his service in the Navy, during the Korean War, working on a repair ship called the Vulcan. After almost four years of serving in the Navy, Ron went back to the Illinois Institute of Technology to complete his degree, graduating in '56 with a B.S. in electrical engineering.
Ron began attending Jefferson Park Bible Church where his Christian faith really began to grow. While there, he met Margaret Stahl whom he married May 21, 1960. Ron worked for Motorola for thirty-six years in the research department as an electrical engineer where he has twenty-eight patents under his name.
Ron was also involved in the church. He served as a deacon, and as a Sunday school teacher. He was on the board of Wheaton Christian Grammar School and Wheaton Academy. After retirement, he helped teach science, physics, and math to his home schooled grandchildren.
Ron was a deep thinker and a loving, kind, and faithful husband. His memory and legacy are treasured and remembered by Margaret, his wife of 55 years, his five children: Andrew Chapman, Jonathan Chapman (and wife, Jewel), Elizabeth Higgins (and husband, Dave), Paul Chapman (and wife, Rachelle), and Rachel Propert (and husband, Shane), and his thirteen grandchildren: Joanne, Janet, Christian (and wife, Renee), Calvin, Caleb, Hannah, Lisabeth, Eden, Catherine, Charles, Elizabeth, William, and Anna.
Ron was, and continues to be loved as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His faith has blessed many and he will be missed even as we rejoice in the hope of his eternity with Jesus Christ.
