Ronald A. Brett, age 84, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. He was born March 26, 1931 in South Africa to Robert and Florence Brett.
Ron served as a missionary for 41 years with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM). He helped build up many Christian book stores in South Africa. In 1980, he and his wife moved to the U.S. to serve in TEAM's headquarters. He also served as interim director of TEAM for a period of time.
Ron was a family man. He enjoyed his quiet times with Pat, listening to music and reading. With his children, he enjoyed playing tennis with his daughter, Shirley, making her earn her victories; and he shared his love of wildlife with his son, Michael, spending many vacations visiting game reserves in South Africa with his family. Later on in life, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and sharing his love of the gospel with them in between piggy-back rides. He had an unmatched wit, evident in his many humorous encounters with his son-in-law, Mervin; it was evident even throughout his struggle with Alzheimers. And most of all, he loved sharing the word of God, leading many to Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his son, Michael (Sharon) Brett of South Africa, his daughter, Shirley (Mervin) Langley of Burlington, and nine grandchildren: Andrew Brett, Matthew Brett, Robert Brett, Shaun (Courtney Gallaher) Langley, Michelle (Jim) Wagner, Garreth (Meghan) Langley, Allison Langley, Graeme Langley, and Emma Langley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Windsor Park auditorium, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, IL 60188. Interment will be held privately at Wheaton Cemetery.
