On July 26, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, Ron Small passed away in Winfield, Illinois at the age of 81. A devoted husband, cherished brother, and dear friend, Ron’s feisty spirit, outgoing nature, and great sense of humor will be sorely missed of all who knew him.

Born on May 30, 1945, in Peoria, Illinois, his parents moved frequently, and though a “city kid”, he had a love of farm life, often spending time with relatives in rural small dirt farms, hunting squirrel or fishing. Even as a kid, he was industrious with ice cream and paper routes. When his parents bought one of the first homes in Carol Stream, he attended Glenbard West High School, taking an hour-long school bus each way. He remained in the Wheaton area the rest of his life, enjoying the stability of “home”.

Encouraged by a mentor, Ron found success in his career as a realtor, a profession to which he dedicated many years and was rewarded for his efforts. His honesty, diligence, and genuine care for others helped make dreams come true for countless families in search of a place to call home.

Outside of his professional life, his creative gifts were immense. Ron was happiest among the tranquil beauty of his own yard. He loved to create and enjoy the interesting and peaceful places he planned.

Every gathering with Ron was special, not just for the warmth of his company but also for the delicious meals he had lovingly prepared. An excellent cook, he was especially proud of his BBQ baby back ribs and grilled salmon—dishes often requested and remembered fondly by his friends. Sharing a meal with Ron meant more than just enjoying good food; it was an experience woven with affection, hospitality, and the kind of easy cheer that made memories linger.

Ron professed his faith in Christ at the age of 53. As his faith matured, he came to see many of the ways God had been guiding Ron to Himself, protecting him and caring for him. Ron clung to the assurance of Hebrews 13:5b “Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you.” There were disappointments, some devastating, in Ron’s life. But Ron knew and trusted his Savior, Jesus Christ. We rejoice he is with Him, free from the earthly maladies Ron endured.

Ron is survived by his beloved spouse, Karen Cisar-Small (KC), whose partnership and love brought joy and strength to his days. He leaves behind his sister, Eileen McGarry, and brother-in-law, Michael McGarry, who will greatly miss his love and support.

We remember Ron for the legacy of love he leaves behind—in the laughter of friends, in the quiet beauty of a well-tended garden, in the enjoyment of good food, and in his genuine interest and delight in meeting new friends and everyday kindnesses that defined his journey. His absence will be deeply felt, but his influence will endure in countless ways.

Family and friends will gather to honor Ron’s life at a visitation on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hultgren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 304 N Main St, Wheaton, IL 60187. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM, at Naperville Presbyterian Church, 943 Sanctuary Lane, Naperville, IL 60540. Ron will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421, on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 9:30 AM.
