Obituary

Rolf I. Fritz, age 75, a resident of Wheaton, IL for 49 years, died July 28, 2011 from complications of Parkinson's Disease, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. He was born July 7, 1936 in Chicago to Ivar and Ebba Fritz.

Rolf grew up in Elmhurst and attended York High School and Elmhurst College. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1958, where he was an active member of Alpha Phi Omega. The following year he served as the Alumni Secretary of NIU. On August 20, 1960 he married Jackie Wathen. Rolf began his teaching career as an industrial arts teacher and guidance counselor at Willowbrook High School in Villa Park. He then worked as a guidance counselor at Glenbard East High School in Lombard before his 30 years in the Admissions and Records Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He retired in 1995.

Throughout his life he was an avid traveler with family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Chicago sports teams and was very proud of his Swedish heritage. During his retirement years, he volunteered at the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the Morton Arboretum, where he helped develop the Heritage Trail. He loved the outdoors, birding, biking and gardening. Rolf was a longtime member of Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Fritz, two children, Craig Fritz of Sycamore and Cheryl (Jerry) Boudreau of South Elgin, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jody Louise Fritz, his parents, two sisters, Sonja Alm and Vanja Weber and brother Gene Fritz.

A visitation will be held Sunday, July 31, from 3 until 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St. Wheaton. Private interment will be held at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst.
