Rolando B. Catañag, Sr., age 79, a resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away August 6, 2019. He was born February 22, 1940 in Lemery, Batangas, Philippines.

In 1964 Rolando married Elizabeth Patindol. While searching for a better life for his family, Rolando immigrated to the United States in 1970 after obtaining an electrical engineering degree in the Philippines. He secured a position at Sargent & Lundy, an engineering consulting company. After becoming financially stable in the United States, Rolando brought his wife followed by his five children to the Chicago area and eventually settled in the suburbs. He retired from Sargent & Lundy and moved to Ocala, Florida.

Rolando was a hard worker and a very devoted husband and family man. He loved his children, grandchildren and adored his great-grandchildren. He was an avid movie-goer and enjoyed playing chess.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Elizabeth P. Catañag; his children Gloria (Dara) Meas, Liberty (Robert) Turner, Lorenzo (Lynn) Catañag, II, Maribeth (Mark) Evans and Rolando (Mercy) Catañag, Jr.; his grandchildren: Angela and Michelle Meas; Andrew (Melissa) Turner and Robert Turner, Jr.; Evan, MacGregor and Kassidi Catañag; Zachary and Alexander Evans; and Ryan and Matthew Catañag; his great-grandchildren Elijah and Gwendolyn Turner; and his brother Renaldo (Soledad) Catañag.

Preceded in death by his daughter Angela and his parents Lorenzo and Gloria Catañag.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 16, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home , 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, Illinois. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
