Roger David
Britton Sr.
August 18, 1966 – June 22, 2022
Roger David Britton Sr., age 55, a Chicago resident, went home to be with the Lord on June 22th, 2022. He was born in Chicago on August 18th, 1966, to Wilma and Roger Britton.
Roger attended Everett Grammar School and Kelly High School in Chicago, then Liberty University and afterward he joined the Army where he was trained as a chaplain. Roger was a very patriotic man who was most proud to be an American. He loved all war history and anything military, owning every war history book and movie ever made it seems. Roger organized book and magazine drives for the troops and won awards for numerous projects to support the troops. His last job was at the Veteran's Hospital caring for the vets because he loved and respected them. During his employ at the V.A. hospital he helped many Vets learn how to procure the benefits due them. Being the historian and patriot that he was, Roger spent countless hours making phone calls and writing letters to the government asking for the medals and awards due all of the military men in his family, creating framed art to display it.
But what Roger loved more than history, America and the Vets was his family. "Uncle Paparazzi" was his nick name because he took thousands of pictures and videos of every family event, big or small. He liked to interview all the family members at family gatherings while he videotaped. And he was known as the uncle who plays with us by all the smaller children because that's what he did at all the family gatherings. While the rest of the adults were lounging around the dessert, ready to pack up and go home from a family party, Roger could still be found throwing another water balloon or still hiding in the bushes for the never-ending game of hide an seek. He would cheer for them when they accomplished something and encourage them as they tried. Roger and Sarah have two children, Tinley , born with special needs and David. Roger cared for his daughter's special needs with love and tenderness and was spurned to champion and support organizations that address their needs.
Roger loved the Lord Jesus and served him in various capacities throughout the above events. While at Liberty University, he organized and implemented a prison ministry. While in the Army, he was a Chaplain's assistant. He worked at and went to school at Moody Bible Institute. Roger is survived by his wife Sarah of 11 years, Tinley his 12 year old daughter and David, his 10 year old son, Howard (Lisa) Kern, Paul (Artis) Kern, Michael (Joyce) Britton and Daniel Britton, his brothers, Debbie (Gene) McIntyre, his sister and his mother, Wilma Britton.
