Rodney V. Dougherty, age 84, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died March 2, 2011, at home. He was born July 2, 1926 in Oak Park, IL.
Rod was a graduate of Oak Park High School, and the University of Illinois. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a mechanic for airplanes, and as a code interpreter. He loved his bride of 38 years, Christina "Tina", who preceded him in death in 1989.
He is survived by his six children, Susan (Dan) Grotto of Wheaton, Sally Dougherty of Watseka, IL, Mary Mike Bremer of Wheaton, Katy (Tom) Grotto of Winfield, IL, Michael Dougherty of Mandeville, LA, and Betsy (Doug) Rothery of Wheaton; and 15 grandchildren, Andy (Anne), Joe and Ben, Maggie and Christina, Scott, Joe and Rachel, Melanie, Christian and Cameron, and Megan, Ian, Ainsley and Kayden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tina; and his sister, Mary Doyle.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St.. in Wheaton, IL. Private interment will be at Wheaton Cemetery.
