Roberta Gail Hering, beloved wife of the late Harry A. Hering Jr. passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
Born December 24, 1939 in Scranton, Pa to the late Edna Marie and Ivor Taliesin Williams. Mrs. Hering moved to Bloomfield NJ as a child and graduated from Bloomfield High School. She earned a Degree from Newark Technical School as a Medical Assistant. Mrs. Hering was employed as an Office Manager in two Medical practices in New Jersey and as an Insurance Administrator for Korwitts Clinic in Illinois.
Mrs. Hering was a member of Sea Island Presbyterian Church, Beaufort, South Carolina. Throughout her life Mrs. Hering volunteered and held various offices with organizations including the PTA, HSO, Boy and Girl Scouts of America. She was Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary, Nutley Fire Department, Nutley, NJ.
Mrs. Hering completed course work and received a Certificate from the Library of Congress as a Certified Braille Transcriber, volunteering for many years for Naperville Area Transcribing for the Blind, Naperville, IL. She transcribed books from kindergarten through College into Braille and helped with volumes for the National Braille Associations, Inc.
After retiring in 1996, she and her husband moved to Fripp Island SC. She served as Secretary for the Fripp Island Women's Club, and as Treasurer of the Ladies Nine Hole Golf Group on Fripp. She was a member of the Fripp Island Audubon Club and thoroughly enjoyed the natural beauty and serenity of the island as well as birding with friends. She was an avid Bridge player and a Member of Literati Book Club. She also volunteered for Friends of Caroline Hospice in Beaufort for 15 years.
After moving to Windsor Park in 2015 she volunteered with the Health Services Committee and the Dining Committee.
Her husband Harry A. Hering Jr., her son Mark Scott Hering, and her sister Lauralee Williams preceded her in death. She was a loving Mother to Keith Scott Hering of Tucson, Arizona, Chris Scott Hering and wife Sandra of Oswego IL and June Anne Kolze and husband Michael of Romeoville, IL. She was a loving and proud grandmother to grandchildren, Samantha, Sydney and Zachary Hering, and Nicholas, Harrison and Julia Kolze.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024. Visitation is from 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. and the Memorial Service will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Windsor Park Auditorium, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, IL 60188.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Windsor Park Benevolent Fund , Carol Stream IL.
