IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert J.
Turley
January 8, 1934 – August 17, 2025
Robert J. Turley, age 91, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Bob was born on January 8, 1934, in Pampa, Texas, to Ernest & Christina Turley. He grew up in Whiting, Indiana, where he was lovingly raised by his aunt, Gladys Judson. Bob attended Purdue University and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. At Purdue, Bob and a friend opened the first carryout pizza restaurant in West Lafayette, Indiana. After graduation, Bob began his working career with Standard Oil as an engineer.
On May 9, 1959, Bob married the love of his life, Sandra Schurman. Together they built a beautiful life and family, raising their children in LaGrange, Illinois and eventually moved to Batavia, Illinois. In 1965, Bob took a leap of faith and opened his own business, Chatham Supply, in Blue Island, Illinois. Upon retirement, Bob & Sandy fulfilled a dream of building a home in Galena, Illinois, where they settled permanently in 2007. After Sandy's passing in 2016, Bob moved to Windsor Park, where he made many friends in his later years.
Bob loved classic cars and even restored a 1934 Plymouth. He had a talent for craftsmanship and enjoyed making dollhouses. Bob rooted faithfully for the Chicago White Sox and the Oakland Raiders. Bob & Sandy cherished traveling later in life, with memorable journeys to Greece, Hawaii, Thailand, and an Alaskan cruise.
Faith and service were also important parts of Bob's life. He was active at First United Methodist Church in Western Springs and proud to be recognized as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Advocate of the Year in 2008. CASA is an organization that supports and promotes court appointed volunteer advocacy for children who have experienced abuse or neglect.
He is survived by his children Deann (Robert) Dahlquist & Grant (Cindy) Turley; his grandchildren Ashley (fiancée Jack Toner) Dahlquist & Savannah Turley.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sandy and his brother Ken Turley.
