Robert V.
Thompson
July 11, 1924 – November 23, 2019
Robert V. Thompson (Bob), age 95, a resident of Colony Park in Carol Stream, IL, died November 23, 2019, peacefully at home. He was born July 11, 1924 in Aurora, Illinois to Murphy and Zither Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Anny Thompson.
Bob, a World War II and Korean War veteran, served in the United States Army as a radio mechanic. In 2016 Bob had the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC on the Honor Flight. He spoke fondly of his memories of that special day and touched by the outpouring of people who cheered on all the Veteran's. He looked forward to the DuPage Veteran's Foundation Fundraiser each May at the DuPage County Airport.
He was a lifelong Cubs fan who cleaned the stands at Wrigley Field when he was 14 and laughed about literally working for a bag of peanuts, a master at Jeopardy, an avid reader, a story teller with vivid details of living through the depression, a young man serving his country and the life he led. In 1989, Bob retired from Amphenol Connectors.
Bob is survived by his loving companion, Jackie Upp; his daughter, Debra Z. Thompson; sons, Kevin M. Thompson and Robert M. Thompson; granddaughter, Farrah Scheffler and great granddaughter, Ava Scheffler. Loving friends: Charles Smith, Jim O'Hern (Joanne), Ryan, Meghan, Kaitlin; Patti Lopuszanski (Jim), David (Megan), Brian and Kevin; Rachel Harbaugh and the countless friends he cherished at Colony Park.
A special thank you to the DuPage County VA Commission for the support they provided to Bob, the compassionate and loving team from Harbor Light Hospice that brought joy to him with their visits, and to Kristina, from My Loving Family, who cared for Bob with grace and kindness.
