Robert W. Strodtman's Obituary
Robert W. Strodtman, age 94, a resident of Pana, IL, died Sunday, October 4, 2015, at the DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in DeKalb, IL. He was born October 26, 1920 in LaRose, IL.
He was born in a small farm community in central Illinois. His family later moved to Chicago. He graduated from Crane High School in Chicago. He met his wife Virginia in church and they were married on December 7th, 1940. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and was discharged in 1946. He and Virginia celebrated 52 loving years together. After Virginia passed he married their longtime friend, Martha Carrell and enjoyed 22 years of happiness. He spent his entire career as a tool and die engineer and together with his brother, Howard, he invented a secondary operation machine which revolutionized the industry, saving time and money. After he retired he moved to Pana, IL with his wife Martha, and together they volunteered as Program Coordinators for radio station WJLY in Ramsey, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Martha (née Dean); his children, Janet E. Line of Aurora, IL, Robert (Debbie) Strodtman also of Aurora, IL, James Strodtman of Atlanta, GA, Lynne (Anthony) Waratuke of Cary, IL, Beth (Joe) Bernet of Orland Park, IL, John (Rosemary) Strodtman of Wheaton, IL, and step-son Fredrick (Kathy) Carrell of Sycamore, IL; his brother, Leander Strodtman of Grand Rapids, MI, his sister, Mildred Hanson of Racine, WI. He is also survived by a step-daughter-in-law, Terry Carrell; and a step-son-in-law, Ted Krause. Together with Martha they were blessed with 25 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia; his brother Howard Strodtman; his stepchildren, Raymond Carrell, and Ina Lynn Krause.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Wheaton Bible Church , 27w500 North Ave, West Chicago, IL 60185. Interment will be private prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be directed to the Christian radio station, WJLY Radio , PO Box 456, Ramsey, IL 62080.
