Obituary

Robert "Bob" Stewart, 86, a resident of Winfield, Illinois, went to be with his beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of Friday, April 10, 2020. Robert was born to Edward and Lilian Stewart in Chicago, Illinois, on October 24, 1933, and graduated from East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Illinois, where he excelled at baseball. Bob served in the United States Army at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. On October 3, 1959, Bob married Dolores Ann Stanciu, at the Melrose Baptist Church in Melrose Park, Illinois, and they began their life together in Wheaton, Illinois, then moving to Winfield, Illinois.

Bob worked for 40 years as a purchasing agent for Diameters Corporation in Schiller Park, Illinois, and 44 years as a part-time custodian at Wheaton Christian Grammar School, where he developed many meaningful relationships with staff, faculty, students, and parents. He continued to work well into his retirement years as a part-time Funeral Assistant at Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton. Bob was a member for 40 years of The Compass Church in Wheaton (formerly Wheaton Evangelical Free Church), where he served as Captain of the ushers.

Bob was an avid sports fan and loved to root for the Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks. One of his favorite memories was being a "rookie" player at the Chicago Cubs Fantasy Baseball Camp in Arizona in 1986, where he actually met Ernie Banks. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed doing projects around the house and tending to his yard and garden. Bob will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and contagious laughter.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores, two children, Julie and Paul, and his two treasured granddaughters, Abigail (Nicholas) Ripoli-Hodgdon and Amanda Ripoli.

At the time of his passing, the nurses said Bob had a smile on his face, and we know it was because he saw Jesus. Bob will be laid to rest at a private family service at Wheaton Cemetery. A public memorial with family and many friends, celebrating his life, will be scheduled at a future date.
