Obituary

Robert Selvey, age 81, a resident of Wheaton, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 6, 2018. He was born July 8, 1937 in Harlan County, Kentucky to Arthur and Rose Selvey.

At the age of 14, Robert was encouraged to leave Harlan County and the coal mines to live with family in Chicago. He traveled alone to Chicago where he eventually connected with family and talked his way into a job as a welder, even though he did not know anything about welding.  He quickly learned his trade and worked his way up to management at Reflector Hardware Corporation in Melrose Park, where he worked for over 20 years.

He enjoyed sports and especially liked following the Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by 11 children, Robert "Bud" (Ock Joo) Selvey, Shay-anne (James) White, Margaret (John) Remias, Brenda (Mark) Gortowski, Joel (Candy) Selvey, Susan Easom, Jordan (Patti) Selvey, Rachel (Robert) Sprouse, Peter (Kim) Selvey, Julie Selvey, and Jin Ae (Eric) Arneklev,  27 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by two brothers, Bruce (Margie) Selvey and Jack (Shelby)Selvey and two sisters, Charlene Walker and Liz (Lee)Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Tommy and Wayne Selvey.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 10:30 until 12:30 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m.  Private interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.

In Lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be directed to the Leukemia foundation .
