Retired small business owner, Robert W. Schmeltzer, 85 passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Monday, June 24, 2024. Bob was born in Chicago, IL on August 27, 1938. In elementary school his family moved to Glen Ellyn, IL where he grew up and attended Glenbard West High School.

He owned and operated York Auto Body in Aurora, IL for decades before retiring. He loved boating whether it was cabin-cruising or sailing. On weekends you could find Bob tinkering, painting, or polishing his boats.

Bob is survived by his loving children, Robert E. Schmeltzer of Wheaton, IL, Leah A. Kennetz and son-in-law Lee Kennetz of Elburn, IL,  Kristin J. Houston of Butler, NJ; his grandchildren Dylan, Emily, Mallory, and Payne; and his longtime partner Dr. Jean M. Alberti of Aurora, IL.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother Helen (Moravec) Schmeltzer, his father William G. Schmeltzer, his sister Lorayne Bayer, and his daughter-in-law Debbie (Schuler) Schmeltzer.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 565 Randy Road, Carol Stream, IL 60188 .
