Robert E. Monroe, age 79, a lifelong resident of Wheaton, died Friday, September 21 at the University of Chicago Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on June 18, 1928 in Chicago.
He attended Wheaton schools graduating from Wheaton Community High School in 1946. He graduated from Drake University of Des Moines, IA. Bob loved nature and the outdoors spending much of his free time hunting and fishing. He adored his grandchildren and found great pleasure in attending their various sporting events and other activities
He is survived by his children, Michael (Carol) Monroe, Michelle (Tom) Gattas, and Scott (Karie) Monroe; six grandchildren, Jennifer Rutzen and Michael Monroe, Bryon and James Gattas, Benjamin and Sam Monroe; and his dear friend, Barb and her family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Gertrude; and his brother, James Howard Monroe.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
