Robert Bernard Kasperson's Obituary
Robert Bernard Kasperson, 86, died Monday, August 5, surrounded by his family in Lombard, IL. He was born on August 12, 1926 to Ole and Ingeborg (Olson) Kasperson at Iroquois, South Dakota. In 1935 the family moved to the Sinai area where Robert grew up. That is where he met and married Ruth Erstad with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage. To this union two sons and two daughters were born.
After marrying they farmed in Oldham, South Dakota, then sensed God's call to full time ministry. Pastor Bob, Ruth and family served as missionaries in Brazil for ten years. Upon their return stateside, they served congregations in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN, Hauge Lutheran in Chicago, IL, and St. Olaf Lutheran in Montgomery, IL. He retired in 1992, but continued ministering as fill-in pastor for a number of area churches. Robert was a graduate of the Lutheran Bible Institute and Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree.
Pastor Bob loved preaching, teaching and being with people. He took special joy in his family. When asked how many grandchildren he had, he'd hold up his hand and say "a handful".
He is survived by his wife Ruth, their sons Richard (Ursula), Philip (Elizabeth), and daughters Roberta, and Rebecca (Dale Olsen), five grandchildren, Nicholas, Justin, Hannah, Jordan, and Arne (Brigid) and one great grandchild, Diana Rebecca. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and seven brothers.
A visitation will be held Fri. Aug. 9, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. A memorial service will be held Sat. Aug. 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church,1233 Douglas Avenue, Montgomery, IL 60538. Interment is private.
