Robert L. Gilleylen, age 66, a beloved resident of North Aurora, Illinois, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, Illinois. He was born on April 13, 1957, in Carbondale, Illinois, to Robert and Sandra Gilleylen, the second child of four siblings.
Robert spent his formative years in Carbondale before relocating to Wheaton at the age of 12. He graduated from Wheaton Central High School in 1975, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Martin. Their enduring love story culminated in marriage in 1979, and they raised three wonderful daughters in Wheaton.
During his working years, Robert dedicated over two decades to Lifetime Fitness, leaving an indelible mark on the communities of Warrenville and Bloomingdale, where he was well-known and respected.
In his personal life, Robert was a devoted member of the Wheaton Christian Center for more than 35 years. He was recognized for his skill in audio engineering, contributing his talents faithfully to the congregation and to his community through various outreach programs.
Robert had a passion for music, with a particular affinity for jazz and gospel genres. He also possessed a keen interest in all things related to sound. His quest for knowledge was never-ending, and he derived great pleasure from watching programs on the History Channel.
The outdoors held a special place in Robert's heart, and he could often be found in his backyard, tending to the grill and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Gilleylen, their three cherished daughters, Randine (Philip Jr.) Holloway, Brittnee Gilleylen, and Kelsee Gilleylen, his adored granddaughter, Mikayla Holloway, his twin sister, Roberta (Stephen) Knox, his brother, Todd (Jada) Gilleylen, and his mother, Sandra Gilleylen, along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Gilleylen, and his brother, Gregory Gilleylen.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Robert's life will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Wheaton Christian Center in Carol Stream, Illinois. A memorial service in his honor will follow at 11:00 a.m.
