Robert G. Gabalec, age 90, formerly a resident of Naperville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL. He was born June 10, 1924 in Cicero to Edward and Agnes Gabalec.

Bob served as a Navigator during WWII for the Army Air Corps. He was a graduate of Purdue University and Santa Clara University where he received his Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. He enjoyed working with his hands doing stained glass, woodworking and making furniture and toys for his grandchildren. He loved family trips and especially loved to be with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Thomas (Linda) Gabalec and Ruth (James) Milashus; grandchildren, Jennifer Milashus, Craig (Haley) Gabalec and Amanda (Adam) Welsand; and 3 great-grandchildren, Josh, Nicole and Brian. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Jeanne A. Gabalec, and 2 grandchildren, Jimmy and Neal Milashus.

An brief interment service with military honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL, Monday, November 24th at 2:30 PM. Memorial gifts may be directed to Misericordia Heart of Mercy, Attn: Sister Rosemary Connelly, 6300 North Ridge Ave., Chicago, IL 60660.
