Obituary

Robert Irwin (Bob) Foster, a longtime Wheaton resident retired to McKenna, Washington, passed away Sunday, September 12th. Born July 8, 1925 in Elmhurst, to Glen Ellen residents David and Ethel Foster, Bob followed in his father's footsteps and became the last of four generations of brick and stone masons known for their craftsmanship in constructing some of Chicago's most ornate archways and facades.

Not only was Bob skilled in masonry and woodworking, but he also devoted his life to children. During the many years that he taught industrial arts and remedial reading in Chicago's inner city, Bob was known for his ability to engage children who were failing in school and to motivate them toward success. In his retirement Bob continued to substitute teach through the age of 77 in Washington's public schools, where he was affectionately called "Grandpa." He will be sorely missed by his own sons Robert B. Foster and John Foster, his daughters Sherrill Whittern and Jennifer Stramaglia, his brother David Foster, and his eleven grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Edna in February of 2000.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 18th at Pleasant Hill Community Church, 26w401 Geneva Road, Wheaton, Illinois with Rev. Scott Howington officiating. Internment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Lakewood, Washington.
