Robert V. Enstrom, age 81, a resident of Wheaton, IL, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 23, 2018, suddenly as a result of a heart related incident. He was born August 23, 1936 in Oak Park to Albin and Edna Enstrom.
Bob grew up in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. He graduated from Austin High School and the University of IL with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. After college he served for a short time in the U.S. Army using his engineering skills. He met Judi Kelts at Central Ave. Baptist Church and they were married on October 20, 1961. After several years working at International Harvester he began a 25 year career at Illinois Tool Works in various engineering roles. In retirement he volunteered with Mercy Ships, serving several locations in West Africa.
He loved to travel and visited every U.S. state, Canadian province and continent. He served on several missions trips including to Peru and Costa Rica. He served on archaeological digs in the Holy Lands. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and loved to attend high school and college sports.
Bob was active in churches throughout his life. He has been a member at Central Ave. Baptist Church, Judson Baptist Church, Calvary Memorial Church, and College Church in Wheaton. He served as a leader in AWANA Clubs for 25 years, taught Sunday School and served meals on Wednesday evenings. For the last 19 years he was a team leader of a Men's Bible Study in River Forest, where he developed a passion for the Scriptures.
He is survived by his wife, Judi, three children, Eric (Marilyn) Enstrom of Wheaton, Robin (Brad) Enstrom-Hall of Galena and Keith (Nicole) Enstrom of Winfield, and four grandchildren, Alicia Enstrom, Tyler Hall, Nicole Enstrom and Kristin Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward Albin (Carrie) Enstrom.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at
College Church
, Washington and Seminary Ave., Wheaton. Private interment will be held at Wheaton Cemetery.
