Robert "Bob" Davies, age 70, of Aurora, IL, died at home on Saturday, October 10, 2015, with family by his side. He was born October 26, 1944 in Chicago to John and Elizabeth Davies.
Bob was a graduate of Bogan High School in Chicago. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War, earning an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. While in the Navy, he acquired his trade as a boiler engineer. He faithfully served Union Carbide, later Viskase, from shortly after his discharge until his retirement in 1999. As a retiree, Bob learned pool maintenance and spent more than a decade tending to the shared pool in his condominium community.
Bob was a skilled bowler who participated in local leagues until suffering a stroke in March of this year. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, attending many White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks games over the years with his daughter, grandson, family, and friends. In later years, he spent his time soaking up the sun at the pool, traveling, and bicycling through the trails near his home.
He is survived by his daughter, Rachael Davies of Aurora, and his grandchildren, Jacob and Mara. He is also survived by his siblings: Colette "Coke" (Jerry) Bundschuh, John "Jack" (Irene) Davies, Margaret "Peggy" (the late Lane) Bonk, and Mary (Phil) Novack, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Barbara Ingalls and his parents.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL, where a funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Private interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
