Charles Robinson

Robert "Bob" Charles Robinson, a resident of Batavia, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2017 surrounded by his family, one day after his 90th birthday. He was born November 17, 1927 in Joliet, IL.
He graduated from Joliet High School and joined the United States Marines Corps at age 17. After WWII, he used the G. I. Bill to attend the University of IL, where he received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. After college he returned to Joliet and married his high school sweetheart, Joan Allen. He worked for General Motors in the foundry industry for many years. He went on to work for Lester B. Knight, an engineering consulting firm, where he traveled the world building foundries. He earned his Professional Engineering License and was honored for creating a formula related to material cost.
Upon retiring, he continued to do consulting work. After Joan's passing, he married Phyllis Janis on June 13, 1998 at the Methodist Church in Geneva, Illinois.
Bob was interested in motor sports and enjoyed attending the Indianapolis 500. He was an active person who walked every day. Bob's Joyful "Good Morning" will be missed by all the early bird walkers on the Batavia bike path. He and Phyllis traveled around the world. He was a Chicago Cub's fan who loved watching them win the World Series.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, five children, Rob (Sue) Robinson of Wheaton, Karen (Larry) Hutchinson of Carol Stream, Lynn (Paul) Sweeney of Sacramento, CA, Kurt (Janis) Robinson of Lexington, KY and Jim Robinson of Lancaster, PA, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He is also survived by stepchildren, David (Judy) Janis of Geneva, IL and Dr. Douglas (Karla) Janis of Geneva, IL and 10 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan, his parents, two brothers and his stepson, Dr. Gregory Janis.
A celebration of his life will be held privately.
