Obituary

Robert Anthony Barstatis, 73, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2014 due to complications from his long term battle with cancer which he courageously fought over the course of the last 12 years. He was at home with family and friends at the time of his death.

Robert was born in Chicago, IL, on June 19, 1940, to the late James and Jacqueline Barstatis. He was preceded in death by his children Brett M. Barstatis, Jarrod A. Barstatis, Moses F. Barstatis, Germari Barstatis, and Chante Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Linda F. Barstatis, his children Lindsay (Kevin) Tunk, Shahni Barstatis, Lisha (John) Denius, Noah (Natalie) Barstatis, Charles Barstatis, Kenny Barstatis, Elizabeth Barstatis, Precious Barstatis, and Nella Barstatis; along with 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Robert graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School in 1958. After receiving degrees from both the University of Illinois at Chicago and DeVry Technical Institute, Robert went to work for Xerox Corporation in Chicago. Robert spent his career working for Xerox until he retired at age 55 and formed his own consulting business with his long-time friend, Greg Small.

Robert and his wife Linda have been residents of Wheaton for the past 42 years. They have dedicated their lives to fostering and adopting children with special needs. Robert was a longtime member of Wheaton Bible Church; and he has been an integral part of the Men's Ministry Team at the church. Robert's passions were bringing men to know and love Christ, and supporting the poorest African children in Kenya through Compassion International, Inc. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to Compassion INT would honor him (www.compassion.com). Robert was a beloved husband, loving father, cherished friend, and wise counselor who will be deeply missed and loved forever.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Avenue, West Chicago, IL 60185. Arrangements will be made by Hultgren Funeral Home, Wheaton, IL (630) 668-0027. Guestbook online at www.hultgrenfh.com
