Obituary

Richard Wallace Wing, age 85, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, died Friday, December 26 at the Johnson Healthcare Center at Windsor Park. He was born on January 28, 1923 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Dick was a graduate of Lane Technical High School in Chicago. During WWII he served in the Army as a radio operator for the Philippine Liberation and was awarded 2 Bronze Battle Stars. On November 30, 1946 he married his pen-pal Darlene Cross.

He was a retired Heating and Air Conditioning Technician and a member of Sheet Metal Local 73. He was a member of the Village Church in Barrington where he sang in the choir, ushered and served on the board. He was also a member of the NRA, National Wildlife Fund, and the Model Railroad Association. He was active in Boy Scouts, serving as both Scoutmaster and Committee Chairman of both Scout Troop and Cub Pack 43 for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, model railroads and photography.

He is survived by four children, David (Ruth Ellyn) Wing of Jackson, TN, Susan Wing of Carol Stream, Laurel (Alan) Howard of West Chicago, and William (Lisa) Wing of Fox River Grove, five grandchildren, Emily (Andrew) Capper, Rebecca (Ted) Socia, Daniel (Kristin) Wing, Matthew Wing, and Jenna Wing, four great-grandchildren, one brother, Robert Wing and one sister, Barbara (Earl) Satterthwaite.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene in 2000.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3, at 3:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
