Richard "Rick" VandenBrook, age 61, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born July 29, 1956 in Evanston, IL.
Rick was a man of God, filled with goodness and integrity. As a policeman and a DARE officer in the Wheaton community, he was a role model to countless students. He had a passion for fishing, collecting and Blackhawks' hockey. He especially enjoyed vacations with his wife. He provided constant comic relief doing the voices of every dog he ever owned. He always put Jill's interests and well being ahead of his own.
He is survived by his blessed wife of 19 years, Jill VandenBrook of Wheaton. He was a devoted son to his mother, Carol VandenBrook Croy. He was also survived by his siblings, William VandenBrook, Jeanne VandenBrook (Chuck) Weinberg and Roberta VandenBrook (Robert) Nelson and all of their sons. He is the beloved son-in-law of Marie Polino; nephew of Virginia and Peter Trusiak, and JoAnn Pryor; brother to Perry, Helen and Tony Polino. He loved Megan, Michael, Noah and Joel as if they were his own children.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert VandenBrook.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, IL.
