Richard Turner passed away peacefully in his home on May 1st, 2026, at age 70. A private celebration of life was held on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, at Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton, Illinois.
Richard was born on June 20, 1955, at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina; the eldest son of Richard and Norma Turner. As a young man, Richard demonstrated an interest in running and became a skilled athlete in both cross country and track at Arlington High School, from which he graduated in 1973. He attended Valparaiso University, where he graduated in 1978 with a degree in electrical engineering. After graduating, he married his classmate Jane Mitchell and moved to Ohio, where Richard pursued a masters' degree in engineering.
Richard had a long and fruitful career as an IT professional - a role he held at many companies, including IBM, Ohio University, and Baxter. Richard was particularly proud of his contract work with NASA, with whom he collaborated on the development, design, and testing of their GPS navigational systems.
Richard was known for his love of music, as evidenced by his extensive vinyl record collection and eclectic musical taste. Additionally, Richard demonstrated an affinity for biking and amateur photography, and spent many hours tinkering with his computer, which he proudly built himself.
Richard will be remembered as a loving husband and father, known for his intelligence, sense of humor, and sharp wit. He is survived by his mother Norma, wife Jane, sister Virginia, and daughters Laurel and Elizabeth.
