Dr. Richard Thometz September 2, 1923 - July 30, 2016 It is with a heavy heart that our family has lost such a kind and loving husband and father. Dr. Richard Charles Thometz left this world for a place in heaven on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Richard is survived by the love of his life, Laura, to whom he was married for 43 wonderful years. He also leaves his five sons, Duane (Sue), Dave (Debi), Doug (Julie), Dan (Terri) and Rich (Tracy); eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Charlie and Bill and his twin sister, Ruth. He has led an active and very fulfilled life until the day he left this world. He sailed on Lake Michigan as a younger man, travelled extensively throughout Europe with Laura and taken several trips to Africa to film the wildlife he so loved to talk about. He enjoyed his lake home in Door County, Wisconsin early on as a bachelor and then with his beloved family. He was always learning and reading about anything that caught his interest. He spent his career as a respected Orthodontist and head of the Department of Orthodontia at Loyola University. He had to leave his practice twice in order to serve his county in WWII and Korea. One of his last trips was to Washington, DC on the Honor Flight that honored those servicemen that served in WWII. He said it was one of the most significant things that happened to him, right after marrying his true love, Laura. Everyone who has ever met Richard has commented on what a kind, generous and spiritual man he was. He will be missed by all that have had the pleasure of him in their lives.
