Richard Paul O'Brien, a resident of Streamwood, IL, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 8th. He was born in Girard, OH, in 1935, graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University, and then settled in Glen Ellyn, IL, where as a proud Irish man, he raised his family of five kids with his equally proud Irish wife, Rita Kearney O'Brien. He worked as a corporate tax accountant for Allied Products Corporation for 30 years before retiring in 2000. He loved watching college football, especially Ohio State University - Go Buckeyes! He was also an avid woodworker, known by his friends and loved ones for his handmade pens and bowls, and he volunteered his time in retirement to Deaf Video.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rita O'Brien, his children Matthew, Michael (Tija), Timothy (Emily), Mary (Jonathan), and Margaret O'Brien, his grandchildren, Quinn, Nicola, Rita, Lilija, and Padraic.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lou, sister, Patricia, and brother, Thomas.

Visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home on Thursday, January 10th from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a short memorial service at 5:00 p.m. at the same location. Interment will be private.
