Richard A. Nelson, age 91, a resident of Belmont Village in Carol Stream, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024. He was born March 10, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Joseph & Dorothy Nelson.
Richard was a wonderful, hardworking father, grandfather and true friend. He was a dedicated friend to all those he met. Throughout his 91 years he enjoyed square dancing with his wife Evelyn, officiating football, bowling, backgammon, woodworking, and the occasional marble game. He loved his perfectly manicured lawn and landscaping, his 'Bloody Mary Sundays' with his daughters, and he was the King of 'Dad Jokes'. Richard commanded attention whenever it was available and loved the spotlight. He will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn Florence; his children Debi Hendron, Linda Gehring, Kim (Dave) Good and Pam Latoria; his grandchildren Kim (Greg), Kristin (Michael), Jamie, Adam, Ryan, Katie (Michael), Jacob and John; his great-grandchildren Gregory, Jackson, Ayla, Owen and Olivia; and his brother Ron.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 565 Randy Road, Carol Stream, IL 60188. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Oakridge-Glen Oaks Cemetery in Hillside, IL.
