Richard W . Lundgren , formerly of Long Island, NY passed away at age 93 on April 28, 2023.

Richard was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. He attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point , NY, graduating in 1951.  He earned his Masters of Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, in Hoboken, NJ. He served in the US Navy, as a Lt. Commander during the Korean War .

He married Kathleen (Burke) Lundgren in 1953 and became an engineer for Grumman Aerospace on Long Island, NY where he worked until retirement.

Richard was an avid athlete, playing basketball and football through college .  He love the open water and continued boat ing and sail ing into his eighties. He loved walking along the beach and swimming in the ocean on the Jersey Shore, Long Island Beaches and in Vero Beach, FL where he retired. He loved dancing and biking with his wife , as well as listening to live music and having lunch with friends at local restaurants. After 25 years of retirement in Florida he moved with Ka thleen to Chicago, IL to be closer to family.

Richard is survived by his wife, Kathleen , h is children, Rich ard M. Lundgren, Karen Lundgren and Dana (Patrick) Clifford and 2 grand - children, Kat hleen and Bryan Lundgren. He is preceded in death by his s on-in law, Robert Hendershot .

A memorial service and life celebration will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 2:00 – 5:00 at Hultgren Funeral Home, located at 304 N Main Street in Wheaton, IL  60187.  Visitation with the family from 2:00 – 3:00, followed by a Memorial and Military service.
