IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard A.
Lund
February 10, 1929 – January 3, 2025
Richard A. "Dick" Lund, age 95, a resident of Wheaton since 1964, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 3rd 2025. He was born February 10th 1929 in Oak Park, Illinois to Alvah B. and Anna B. (nee Burke) Lund.
Richard grew up in Elmhurst Illinois. He graduated from York High School in 1947, Elmhurst College in 1949 and the University of Iowa in 1951. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1951 through 1954, in New York City as an Oceanographers mate (i.e. a Weatherman). He married Eleanor L. Person on July 15, 1961. He was employed at Western Electric's Hawthorne Works facility in Cicero, Illinois for 32 years from 1954 until December of 1986 as a Cost Accountant in the capacitor manufacturing division.
Richard was a loving and devoted husband and father whose life was centered around his family. He and Elenor shared a passion for ensuring that their disabled daughter, Julie would live the fullest most regular life possible. He was an avid poet and wrote quite a few poems for family and friends. He was also interested in local DuPage County history and as such was a past member of the DuPage County historical preservation society. He had a continued interest in amateur "Ham" radio as instigated by his father (9EFD and W9PAE) and held an amateur radio license (KN9OZE in 1959 and later KA9QQD) but had not been active in the hobby for some time. Dick and his wife Eleanor were members of Evangel Baptist Church starting in 1965, and he had sung in the church choir at Evangel Baptist Church for several years, when he was much younger. Dick had also enjoyed singing in the Western Electric male chorus as a tenor.
He is survived by his son James (Kimberley) Lund of Aurora, and two grandchildren, David and Lillian. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, his daughter Julie Lund, his parents and one sibling George A. Lund.
