Richard Arlen Gier, age 77, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died October 21, 2022, at home. He was born January 21, 1945 in McPherson, Kansas to Adolph and Gertrude Gier.
Richard graduated from North Texas State University, which is now the University of North Texas, with a Masters degree. He worked as a librarian for a number of years, and most recently for the Warrenville Public Library. Rich was a talented musician and played the trombone for suburban symphony orchestras. Most recently, he enjoyed playing for the Geneva Jazz Ensemble.
Richard is survived by his wife, Nancy Gier of Wheaton, Illinois; his sons, Witte W. Gier of Chicago, Illinois, and Darian M. Gier of Brooklyn, New York; his brother, A. Henry Gier of Hutchinson, Kansas; and his sister, Trudy James of Seattle, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph Emil Gier and Gertrude Witte Gier Middendorf, and his step-father, Fred Middendorf.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Mark Episcopal Church, 393 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
