Rex S. Moore, age 77, a resident of Des Plaines for over 50 years, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 23, 2016. He was born on September 30,1938 in Martin, Tennessee to Virgil and Daisy Moore.
As a teenager, Rex accepted Christ as his Savior, and he served the Lord for all of his life. He was a graduate of Lane Tech High School in Chicago and went on to work in the construction industry as a carpenter and contractor. Shortly after Rex heard Elizabeth Engstrom sing at Orchestra Hall, they had their first date at Riverview Park, and before long they became husband and wife. They were blessed with 56 wonderful years together.
Rex loved music, especially Southern Gospel, and loved to sing with his wife, his children, and in quartets. For many years, Rex and his family shared their music ministry with various area churches. He greatly enjoyed all sports and participated in basketball, baseball, tennis and golf. He retired at the age of 65 and enjoyed spending time with family and traveling to see friends.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Moore, three children, Melody (Jim) Bateman, Melinda (Steve) Traficanti and Mark (Jill) Moore, seven grandchildren, Bethany Bateman, David (Chelsie) Bateman, Valerie (Justin) MacKinnon, Jake Traficanti, Tommy Traficanti, Sarah Moore and Kaitlyn Moore, two great-grandchildren, Addilyn and Jude Bateman, one sister, Joyce Lechner and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Virgil Wayne Moore.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at
Bethany Baptist Church
, 6700 W. Gunnison St., Harwood Heights, IL, where a celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Private interment will be held at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
