Rena B. Slagle's Obituary
Rena B. Slagle, age 92, a resident of Windsor Park Manor, in Carol Stream, IL, died Saturday, May 30, 2015, at home after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born February 8, 1923 in Walnut, IL.
She attended Coe College and graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Chicago, IL. She then joined the US Army Nurse Corps as a Second Lieutenant. She served during World War II in England. She married her high school sweetheart in England in 1945. After the war she worked as a private duty nurse for several physicians and also as a nurse for the Dixon Public Schools. She was a longtime member of the Dixon Country Club in Dixon, IL and the Cross Creek Golf Club in Ft. Myers, FL. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dixon and the Pilgrim's Church in Ft. Myers. She enjoyed golfing, boating, playing bridge and traveling around the world.
She is survived by her children, Philip (Susan) Slagle of Itasca, IL, and Dee Dee (James) Sanborn of Batavia, IL; two grandsons, Scott (Anna) Slagle of Kailua, HI, and Jeff (Teresa) Slagle of Anchorage, AK; and two great-granddaughters, Camille Slagle and Emma Slagle of Kailua, HI.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Slagle; and her sister, Anita Atkinson.
Celebration of Life services are being planned for a later date in Dixon, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Windsor Park Benevolent Fund, 124 Windsor Park Dr., Carol Stream, IL 60188.
