Obituary

Raymond G. Setran, a long-time resident of Saint James, New York, died January 11, 2017 in Carol Stream, Illinois. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 21, 1934 to Oscar and Hildur Setran and attended Brooklyn Technical high school and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. On November 2, 1957, he married Evelyn Mathiesen, and the two had two children, Sharon and David. He worked for Grumman Aerospace, Sperry Gyroscope, and as an owner/operator of several McDonald's restaurants in Long Island, New York. Ray was a faithful member of Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle and served in many roles there, including Sunday school superintendent, trustee, and chairman of the missions board. His passion for missionary work was strong, and he ministered in a variety of foreign countries, including Africa, India, Haiti, and Mexico. He enjoyed fishing, golf, and skiing, and had a love for both nature and travel. Ray was known to both family and friends for his strong principles, his kindness, and generosity. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, his son David, his grandchildren Matthew Stack, Kaitlyn Stack, Parker Setran, Anna Joy Setran, Owen Setran, and Emily Setran, and his brother Ronald. He was preceded in death by his sister Judith and his daughter Sharon. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00am and services at 11:00am on Monday, January 16, 2017 at College Church in Wheaton, 331 E. Seminary Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Missions Department, Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle, 1 Higbie Drive, Smithtown, New York 11787 or the Windsor Park Benevolent Care Fund, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, IL 60188.
