Raymond W. Ostermeier, age 90, a resident of Wheaton since 1964, died on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at Wynscape Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wheaton, Illinois. He was born February 4, 1921 at home in Cumberland, Indiana.
He graduated from New Palestine High School in 1939, where he met Marjorie Tongret, whom he eventually married on February 14, 1942. In July of 1942 he joined the Navy, serving on a transport plane during WWII. Ray began a 35 year career with AT&T in 1947 working in Indianapolis and Chicago.
Ray was very active with the Gary United Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club of Wheaton. He enjoyed travel, fixing things, and the Chicago Cubs.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Ostermeier of Wheaton, three children, Rev. Robert (Linda) Ostermeier of Bloomington, IN, Janet Ostermeier of Wheaton, and Maurice (Kathy) Ostermeier of Carol Stream, five grandchildren, Cindy, Jennifer, Kendra, Mackenzie, and David, three great-grandchildren, Anna, Jonah and Aida.
He was preceded in death by his brother Vernon.
A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton.
