The Reverend Raymond W. Nyquist of Wheaton IL, age 84, died Friday, March 11. He was born in Chicago Dec. 2, 1931, to Arthur and Esther Nyquist, the youngest of 8 children.
As a young teen he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was sent to Denver for treatment, which took 6 years and several surgeries, leaving him with less than 1 lung. He made the most of what he had left.
He returned to Chicago to graduate from North Park University and Seminary and then served churches in Minnesota, California, and Illinois, both in the Evangelical Covenant and the United Church of Christ for over 40 years. He is fondly remembered by all who knew him as a loving, caring and very generous giving man, and as a gifted inspirational preacher.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hazlett Nyquist; his daughter, Jennifer (Adam) Blum; son, Timothy; step-daughters, Susan Powers and Kathleen (Chris) Prokopiak; grandchildren, Courtney, Jordan, Stephanie Blum; step-grandchildren, Cassandra and McKinzie Powers; sister, Mildred; many nieces and nephews; and his previous wife, Elaine.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 16 at
Faith Evangelical Covenant Church
