Obituary

Raymond Paul Negris, age 85, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL, died Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Windsor's Johnson Health Care Center in Carol Stream. He was born March 19, 1925 in New York, NY.

Ray grew up and worked in the metropolitan New York area until a job transfer brought him to Chicago. From 1943 to 1946 he served as a Chaplain's Assistant in the US Army, seeing active combat duty in Leyte in the Philippines, Okinawa and occupation in Korea. In 1948 he graduated from New York University School of Commerce with a degree in finance and worked in public accounting, later transferring to a position of Corporate Controller in two large food Corporations. He was a member of the Financial Executive Institute and served several non-profit groups in managing their finances.

He was always involved in many Christian activities. He was a member of Wheaton Bible Church and served as an elder and treasurer. For many years he also served on the board and as treasurer of The American Tract Society, Garland, Texas.

Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family and his faith in God were the most important things in his life. He was a long time resident of Wheaton until June 2008 when he moved with his wife Ruth to Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth; his children, Beth (Keith) VanderVeen of Wellington, FL, Robert of Glen Ellyn, and Paul (Sharon) of Wheaton; his grandchildren, Joshua, Kristen and Jonathan VanderVeen, and Olivia and Grant Negris; and his sister, Elsie (John) Blackie of East Sandwich, MA. He was preceded in death by his brother, David in October of 2006.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m. at Windsor Park Manor, 124 Windsor Park Dr., in Carol Stream, IL. Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke Healthcare Foundation of Winfield for the benefit of the SODDO Christian Hospital in Ethiopia, www.SODDO.org.
