Obituary

Raymond A. Lindner, age 84, a longtime resident of Winfield, IL, passed away Saturday morning, August 1st, 2015, at Bickford Senior Living in St. Charles, IL. He spent his last days surrounded by his three children, and extended family members. Ray is survived by, two sons, Paul A. (Mieko) Lindner of Geneva IL , Matthew C. (Heidi) Lindner of Little Elm TX; a daughter, Melanie E. Lindner of Aurora, IL; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister Marlene (Tom) Cofoid of Murphy, NC.

Ray was born September 6th, 1930 in Chicago, IL to Gustav Adolf (Al) Lindner and Elizabeth (Führ) Lindner. He met his wife, Shirley (Bratvold) Lindner, working at Stouffers restaurant in downtown Chicago. While working, he finished his B.A. at DePaul University and then became an officer in the Marine Corps serving between WWII and the Korean Conflict. After his military service, Ray worked at AT&T (Western Electric, Illinois Bell), while working second and third jobs at Marshall Field's selling suits and as a Real Estate Agent. He worked hard but always had time for a joke and to have fun.

Ray's true north was his love of family and the Marines Corps. He was very involved with the DuPage Marine Corps League Detachment until Parkinson's disease made it no longer possible. Ray and Shirley, who passed away in 2003, walked a long journey of life together and provided an example of the value of commitment, forgiveness and love. He is deeply missed.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4th, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. Wheaton, IL 60187. A public service by the Marine Corps League will occur at 7:00 p.m. until roughly 7:20 p.m.

Ray's funeral will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421 3-6 weeks after the visitation. An update with the exact day and time will be posted here when finalized.
