Raul G. Gutierrez, age 61, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died March 16, 2015, at Alexian Brothers Hospice in Elk Grove Village, IL. He was born May 5, 1953 in Puebla, Mexico.

My husband, friend and companion for 26 years has gone to be in the presence of our Lord.

Raul was a hard working man and always was interested in the welfare of others; he was always working shoulder to shoulder with me from giving literacy classes in Spanish to participation in marches for immigration reform. But above all, everyone who had the good fortune to find him, he spoke of God's plan of salvation and His infinite mercy. On his way through this world many converted and become believers as Raul shared his faith in Christ Jesus and one of those people was me.

I remember our first Christmas I was not working, we didn't have money for dinner nor to pay the rent, Raul kept telling me, "Do not worry, God will provide". At about ten p.m. his cousin came with some friends brought food to spend Christmas with us; it snowed the rest of the night, Raul went snow plowing, as it was his job at the time, and earned money to cover our expenses.

Mi esposo, amigo y compañero por 26 años ha partido para estar en la presencia de nuestro Señor.

Raúl fue un hombre muy trabajador y siempre le interesó el bienestar de los demás; siempre estaba conmigo trabajando hombro a hombro, desde dar clases de alfabetización en español hasta participar en las marchas para la reforma migratoria. Pero sobre todo, a todo aquel que tenía la fortuna de toparse con él le hablaba de Dios, del plan de salvación y de su infinita misericordia. En su camino por este mundo muchos se convirtieron y se convertirán porque Raúl compartió su fe en Cristo Jesús y una de esas personas fui yo.

Recuerdo nuestra primera Navidad yo no trabajaba, no teníamos para cenar y tampoco para pagar la renta de enero, y Raúl no dejaba de decirme, "no te preocupes, Dios proveerá". Como a las diez de la noche llegó su primo con unos amigos, llevaba comida para pasar la navidad con nosotros, ah! Y también nevó el resto de la noche y Raúl salió a palear nieve y gano dinero para cubrir los gastos.

He is survived by his wife, Lilia Salazar-Gutierrez; his son, Raul Ivan Gutierrez; his brothers, Jose (Marta) Gutierrez and Arturo (Olga) Gutierrez; and many nieces and nephews.

Le sobreviven su esposa, Lilia Salazar-Gutierrez; su hijo, Raul Ivan Gutierrez, sus hermanos y esposas Jose (Martha) Gutierrez y Arturo (Olga) Gutierrez; y muchos sobrinos y sobrinas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Guadalupe; and his youngest brother, Raymundo Gutierrez.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 6:00 p.m. at Wheaton Bible Church / Iglesia Del Pueblo , 27W500 North Ave, in West Chicago, IL . Interment will take place at a later date in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico.

La visitacion se llevara a cabo el Viernes 20 de marzo, 2015 de las 3:00 hasta el comienzo del servicio funeral a las 6:00 p.m. en la iglesia Biblica de Wheaton / Iglesia del Pueblo , 27W500 Avenida Norte en West Chicago, IL . Sera cremado y trasladado a Cholula, Puebla, Mexico.
