Ralph P. Schaffer, age 66, a resident of Carol Stream for over 20 years, died Monday, April 7, 2014, peacefully at home. He was born January 7, 1948 in Chicago to Earl and Dolores Schaffer.

Ralph grew up in Carol Stream and graduated from Glenbard East High School .  He served as a Sargent in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He married Connie Hammons on September 21, 1974.  For 42 years he worked for Allis Chalmers in Carol Stream.

He loved to take walks, work in the yard and was a Chicago Bears fan.  He enjoyed detailing his cars.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Schaffer, one son, Jason (Kimberly) Schaffer of Elgin, and two grandsons, Gavin and Gage Schaffer.  He is also survived by eight siblings, Darlene Heller, Sharon Lupo, Carol Rigler, Ivy Wilkinson, Joyce Albrecht, John Schaffer, Cindy Nemec, and Mark Schaffer and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Delores Knauer and Butch Schaffer.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 3 to 8 at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, where a memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M.
