Ralph E. Nickerson, age 89, of Greene, IA, and formerly of Wheaton, died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at his daughter's home in Green, IA. Mr. Nickerson was born in Epworth, IA, on March 30, 1920 to Harold and Irene Nickerson.

He received his education in the Wheaton Community High School where
he was active playing football. He served in the United States Marines during WWII. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Naperville
Country Club. Ralph moved to Florida where he was a Highway Inspector
for the Florida Department of Transportation. He also served as president of the Ft. Pierce Florida Power Squadron.

He is survived by five children, Ralph (Sandra) Nickerson Jr. of West Dundee, IL, Jill (Alan) MacDonald of Chatham, MA, Kim Nickerson of Delray Beach, FL, Mary Shipley of Greene, IA, and Chris Nickerson of Greene, IA; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Joan) Nickerson of Grantspass, OR, and Alden (Joan) Nickerson of Freeport, IL; and one sister, Arliss Chase of Winfield, IL.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; his second wife, Elizabeth; his third wife, Frances; his grandson, Justin Shipley; his parents; and several brothers, and a sister.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 16, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
